It's cold. And wet. And stormy. And wet. And I haven't been off the boat in a couple days and would like very much to strangle my parents. Did I mention that it's really wet? But no one wants to hear the girl living on a sailboat complain, so enough with all this pessimism.
So on the plus side, our ocean sailing went smoothly and we are anchored in a pretty protected anchorage at Wildwood, New Jersey, next to Cape May. Hopefully the weather will clear enough to row in to shore and wander around Cape May later. We could really benefit from a small grocery store run and a clean load of laundry. Plus I would kill for a Snickers right now...
But the ocean sail was extremely cool. We left at 7 AM Saturday from Atlantic Highlands and motor-sailed all day. It got dark when we were by Atlantic City, which looked very cool all lit up. We got to Cape May around 1 AM Sunday and motored into the poorly lit channel. It was only moderately sketchy, and we anchored by the Coast Guard station barely outside of the channel. I went to bed at 4:30 AM. (I was not a very happy camper the next day as a result of this.)
Sunday we motored up to a more protected anchorage, which was a very good thing because it became incredibly windy and rainy later. I spent a lot of time curled up in my bunk writing, snoozing, and eating candy corn. I spent upwards of 14 hours in bed last night, so my mood is far better this morning. Also, the weather is less wretched now, and we are getting ready for a day on shore. Well I guess that's about it, I'll post about our explorations in Cape May this evening or tomorrow!
