GONE

Today was the day. The long awaited day. It seemed that after so much anticipation, it deserved more fanfare and excitement. We got up, ate oatmeal with granola, and sailed away. A close friend of our family waved us off, snapping photos of our departure from shore. Then we were off.
No dramatic music or inspirational revelations.
But that's one hundred percent alright by me. I have had plenty good byes, many were only just last night, and I don't really want more. Plus it was a glorious morning for a sail. So as I said, off we went.
The wind was northerly, but pretty shifty. We ran downwind for miles, then the wind fizzled out. We motored for a couple more hours then docked at a positively charming little marina about 40 miles from where we started. This place has undoubtedly looked the same for 150 years. There are two huge stone warehouses perched right next to the shore, both 4 stories tall and nearly 200 years old. There is a charm about the whole place, it is reminiscent of times long forgotten by the rest of the world.
Overall, good day. Tomorrow we get our mast removed so we can go through the locks and under the bridges that we'll soon encounter. Tomorrow's game plan involves showers, motoring, a couple locks, and hopefully more free wi-fi so I can update this!

P.S. This is me in front of one of the warehouses at the marina.

  2. Hi Guys,
Your really on your way, great. Can you give us more info on where you are? What marina? or better, your coordinates. We can follow you on NOAA Nautical Charts online. What fun.

  3. Great Stuff Mary!! The trip of a lifetime! Enjoy every bit of the craziness, fun, adventure and boredom that is cruising. If you stop in the Kingston, NY area, you should give my sister Beth a call. It's been a long time since your Dad has seen her. Her number is 408-623-7679 or email at mclivert@mac.com. Enjoy the locks and the canal..the crappy little marina in Albany where the mast goes back up and the Hudson River. Oh yeah and say hi to Dad and Mom for me. Pete McLivery

  4. Hi Mary. I'm Pete McLiverty's sister and he has shared with us the adventure you are on. I'm sure Pete wishes he were there. Your dad opened the door to sailing for all the McLiverty's. Please say 'hi' to him for me and I look forward to following the journey through your eyes and blog.

  5. Congratulations Mary! 20 years ago many of us stood around your parents on the top of Mt. Philo on their wedding day. Who knew that on this momentous anniversary they would be setting out on this special adventure journey with their precious and lovely 15 year old daughter!

I'm trying to figure out how to be a follower of your blog but all that happens is I end up signing into our old blog from our road trip. Any directions would be most appreciated!
