South to Staniel Cay

White Seal is now at Staniel Cay, Exuma! It is 80 degrees and sunny and I am having a marvelous time! We have spent the past few days snorkeling, swimming, and exploring the beautiful Bahamian islands.
I had a birthday party on the beach at Warderick Wells the day before my birthday with a bunch of boater friends. I had a delicious chocolate cake and all sorts of other goodies. I got serenaded by a Bahamian fellow playing 'Happy Birthday' on guitar, which was lovely.
After departing Warderick Wells we headed to Cambridge Cay where we spent two lovely days exploring the island. We snorkeled at Rocky Dundas which was a beautiful underwater cavern loaded with fish and overflowing with coral. We had to leave because the current got really strong, but it was very fun while it lasted. We also found a surfboard on the beach and played around on that for a while.
We left Cambridge for Staniel Cay yesterday. We jumped into the water shortly after arriving here and swam over to Thunderball Cave where we did some fabulous diving. The cave is magnificent, part of a James Bond movie was shot here. After that, my parents and I went in to Staniel Cay and got some groceries (WOOHOO!) including a loaf of famous homemade Bahamian bread. It was very delicious, we polished it off very quickly. I hung out on the beach last night with Rachel, her family, and some other boaters that were anchored nearby.
In the next few days we will be continuing slowly southward in the Exuma island chain. We will be stopping to do some laundry at Black Point, a much needed chore at this point. We may spend a few days there, but as always, plans are tentative for the crew of White Seal. Weather always dictates what we do, as well as what friends on other boats are doing. Hope to post again soon, but WIFI access is very limited in this region so no promises. I have included a few pictures... hope you like them!

  1. I've got a 'snow day' from work cuz I can't get the Bug out of the driveway, so I check out your blog and see all this loveliness. But I'm not jealous - no, not me, not at all.

The pic of the three of you - you all look so healthy!!! I think this cruising life suits you! But don't be gone too long. We miss you in VT.
    Love, Arabella

  2. Felix is arriving on the next plane and will fly from Nassau to where ever you are. Or, at least that is what she said when the thermometer dropped to -20 recently. Just looking at your photos warms me up. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful adventure.
